Screen Printing
How Its done
Screen printing, also known as serigraphy, is a method of creating an image on (in our case) T/shirts, sweatshirts, Hoodies ect . However it can be used on a variety of flat surfaces.
It is achieved by pressing ink through a screen mesh. The Image to be printed is converted to black to make a stencil and is attached to a screen which is coated with a special light sensitive chemical. Both screen and Image or positive are placed in a light box and exposed to uv light. The light hardens the areas the stencil shields from the light and the areas beneath the stencil remain water soluable. Once the screen has been exposed for the correct amount of time, it is removed fromt the light box, the stencil is removed from the screen for Futreuse and the screen is washed out using water. The areas of the mesh which were covered by the stencil then begins to soften and eventually disolves leaving a exact reproduction of the stencil image.
The technique is used both for making fine art prints and for commercial applications, such as printing a company’s logo on Clothing, or for branding Fashion T/shirts Ect.
